Who is in Coldplay, and how did the band meet?

In the mid-1990s, vocalist/pianist Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bass player Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion became friends while living in the same dormitory at the University College of London (UCL).

All four of them having a deep passion for music, they decided to form a band. However, they didn’t call themselves Coldplay. The name Coldplay was actually taken by another band at the time. So, they named their band Starfish.

But, the other band ended up switching names. When this happened, Starfish officially became Coldplay.

Is the band going to stop making music?

In a new interview for the BBC, Chris Martin has indicated Coldplay will hang up their guitars in 2025.

Martin said, “Well I know I can tell you: our last proper record will come out in 2025 and after that I think we will only tour,” Martin says in a preview clip.

“Maybe we’ll do some collaborative things but the Coldplay catalog as it were finishes then.”
