NASA’s astrobiology rover, Perseverance, made a historic landing on Mars on February 18. It streaked through the Martian atmosphere landed on the Jezero crater on the Red Planet. Mission managers at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) near Los Angeles burst into applause as Operations lead Swati Mohan confirmed the landing in the Jezero crater. Moments after touchdown, Perseverance beamed back its first black-and-white images from the Martian surface, one of them showing the rover’s shadow cast on the desolate, rocky landing site. NASA also took to Twitter sharing an interactive map to explore the landing site. US President Joe Biden watched the NASA coverage & tweeted his congratulations. The Perseverance rover aims at finding signs of ancient microbial life on the planet. This is NASA’s most advanced rover which it has sent to another world. Watch the full video for more.
